The Big Freak Out: Educator Fear in Response to a Transgender Child (Journal of Homosexuality), fear and safety were the predominant responses by educators in regard to engaging in discourses that function to “protect” the transgender child from harassment and “protect” the other children (and their teachers) from what might be considered “inappropriate” conversations about sex, gender, and sexuality.
